fandom: I always wonder if I'm doing it wrong

mood: weird

Some days I feel weird about fandom, wish I could be as excited and squeeful as before, and as my friends discovering new fandoms. I feel bad about not commenting on more fic, writing, linking more. And then I remember, yeah, I'm still doing my links, lotrips on delicious most days / lotrips on LiveJournal. / lotrips_de_list - feed on LiveJournal / [dreamwidth.org profile] lotrips_list_feed - feed on Dreamwidth. Also, the odd fic rec, when there's something that catches my fancy. Something, at least.

I totally follow your Delicious feed, and have read some lovely fics that way. It's a real service to fandom!

Fandom is what its fans duz!

Well, I say that but I too go in and out of 'am bad fan' moods. I do, in principle, though, believe that we are who make the fandom, so whatever we do is what the fandom is. The fandom is not this entity out there that we do or do not live up to but it's just the stuff we do. And sometimes we do it obsessively 24/7 and with a beating heart (but if we did that the whole time, we would possibly die); and sometimes we just sort of pootle along and not look at much stuff at all.

Still, whenever I find a new fandom, I feel intimidated all over again....

I hear you. I'm not as squeeful as I was eight years ago. But every once in a while, someone posts a fic that you, oh dearest fandom friend, help bring to our attention, and I think YES, YES, YES!!

I can't move onto to another fandom -- there's nothing there that captures me like LOTR did. Those kinds of fandom squees I can measure in decades for the most part -- Beatles, Monkees (oh hell, pretty well anything in pants and a guitar in the 1960s), Elton, Mozart (I know, go figure), Phantom, LOTR -- and maybe it's because they are rare that they are so overwhelmingly absorbing when they arise.

I don't think you can do fandom wrong. You don't have to have the same energy or level of excitement, but it's evident you still have the love. You give so much to this fandom, and I hope no one (including yourself *g*) ever makes you think otherwise. *hugs*
