mood: grumpy except when I look at my icon

I love these pictures so much, not just the cast leaving Wellington all together and obviously giddy. But this in particular: I can't find the pictures, but a bunch of girls stood at the terminal window with their shirts partway up, showing the O R L A N D O written on their bellies. So Orlando did it back (of course), so Billy poked him in the belly button (of course). And it just makes me a happy fangirl.

My life's been dull these days, which is why I'm not posting much. I could just recycle my personal posts for any random day in March the last six years. I just checked. Yep.

How are you all?

I miss those times! Sad little meep from me, here, in wet Wales. Never mind, I have lovely memories to look back on.

I'm okay, btw, how are you? ;D xxx

I don't know if anyone told it to me, but I saw a photo or two of the fans with their shirts up, and it just seemed obvious. I hope I didn't make it up!

Those pics always remind me I wasn't around back then. Yes, this is a issue for me.

"How are you all?"
Boring, so boring I bore myself. Among other things.

That story is so cute. I've been watching the extended DVD extras the last couple nights, so I'm very much in the mood :)

Gosh, I remember when those pictures came out! The good ol' days...sometimes I wish I could go back in time when Lotrips was all new and unfolding, but at least there's oodles of fond memories. *hearts fandom*

How am I? Tired. But I get to see Shakespeare tomorrow, so I am tiredly excited.

Umm, am not actually seeing Shakespeare. O.o I don't see dead people (often). But I am seeing Coriolanus, one of my beloved thesis plays. :)

I'm so glad I was in lotrips fandom by early 2003, I got to squee with everyone as things happened. Lucky us!

Coriolanus, tricky play, I don't think I've ever seen it. I've read summaries and skimmed it, but that's not the same.

What do you think of the new Shakespeare portrait? I continue to be dubious, but may not have been paying attention.

Yes, it really was an amazing time, and I've never been quite as involved in any other fandom since Lotrips.

Coriolanus was fantastic. It was in the round, with modern dress, and the director's vision and attention to detail was fantastic. The genderswap of the antagonist worked very well, actually...the actress was amazing, a genuinely strong, fierce woman, and her relationship with the protagonist didn't go the way I feared it might, with adultery and the female rival just giving into the sexual entendre.

The production actually reined back most of the mother/son interactions, so it was a little less perverse than it can (and has) been played. But it was a great show.

Goodness me, I didn't know they'd found another possible portrait! But it does seem quite plausibly genuine...the only reliable images we have of Shakespeare are the lithograph on the First Folio (presumably like enough to his image for his friends who knew him) and the bust at Holy Trinity church. The lithograph is really a rather poor image, with wonky proportions, but it definitely looks like it could have been based on this newly-discovered portrait...certainly more than the Chandos portrait with the gold earring.

I'm not really fussed about finding the "truth" about what Shakespeare looked like, but on a completely aesthetic, personal level, I like this new portrait more than any other. We've got pretty nifty means of authenticating paintings these days, but even knowing it was painted in 1610 and accompanied Southhampton's portrait, there's still no absolute way to tell if this is Shakespeare or some random well-to-do gent.

Stephanie Nolan wrote a neat book, Shakespeare's Face, about authenticating a possible Shakespeare portrait, intermixed with scholar's thought about why we care so much about what he looked like. It's a good read!
