Title: Ian's Eyebrow (drabble)
Fandom: LOTR RPS
Pairing: Ian, implied Billy/Viggo
Rating: G
Feedback: yes, please!
Disclaimer: not true, I made it up
Archive: only if you notify me
Notes: Answers the question of why my BillyViggoverse Billy is so firmly in the closet. Thanks to kaydeefalls for the nudge to write every day (even if this isn't 500 words) and to nienor_niniel for a quick lookover.

Ian's Eyebrow

Ian doesn't seem surprised to bump into Billy on a Sunday morning. He merely gives a wave, saying, "walk with me."

With a nod at the minister, Billy swings into step with Ian.

"Presbyterian, I presume?" Ian asks.

Billy laughs, "Yeah, I go for my sister, though she'd find this parish very liberal."

Ian's eyebrow has more eloquence than most actors' whole faces.

Billy answers it, "She goes to Gran's kirk, where the minister's fifty years out of date."

"That's the best reason I've heard yet," Ian's mellow voice says, "to stay in the closet."

Billy nearly sags with relief.

I've been trying to write this for over a year, and the eyebrow thing came at the very last minute.

*G* Reminds me - I heard that the actor who plays Sylar in "Heroes" has been tapped to play a young "Spock" in a Star Trek movie. Apparently Leonard Nimoy asked him how he was at raising one eyebrow. I believe the answer was "you'll find out".

Ah, McCoy and Spock and their eyebrows. I'm so jealous - I can't raise just one.

Admit, you wrote this drabble just to be able to use this sentence *g*.

Didn't, really truly did not ;-) I've been trying to write this interchange for over a year, it got all wordy and expository until I decided to drabble it. I did research on Presbyterian churches in New Zealand! The eyebrow showed up at the very last minute, and took over the whole damn drabble. I love it when writing does that.

*butts in* i love it when writing does that, too! it's like it has its own mind, damn it, and you'd better know when to step the hell aside and let it do its own thing.

and you did here, just beautifully. your writing fires me up.

What about the question of how Viggo and Billy finally got together? Hmmm?

This is a lovely series. I like the snapshot glimpses into their relationship and their feelings for each other, very subtle and gentle. It smacks of realism.

Thank you so much! I have their backstory half written but may just do it in drabbles because somehow (to my complete surprise) they seem to work for this story.

I like to think that Ian is reasonable about things like that. But I'd love to write him having a huge fight with someone who's staying in the closet for dumb career reasons...

Did you grow up as one? I grew up going to the Baptist church, and I've always thought it was the worse North American church for girls and gays. Apparently I gave one of my Sunday teachers nightmares by 'asking too many questions'...

No, I'm from a not-very-religious Jewish family. But Billy roots for Rangers, protestent football team in Glasgow, so he's likely Presbyterian. I do my research ;-)

My husband did grow up in first Unitarian and then Lutheran congregations, and he had too many questions too -- more of a scientific guy than a man of faith.
