Happy Feet, yis

mood: happy

It's a very nice kids movie, Mumbles/Elijah is swell, and Robin Williams does fabulous comic relief. Really good music and dancing.

Fear factor: a bit scary for the the six-year-old who was scared by Peter Pan (the one with Jason Isaacs, yum). I had her and her friend in my lap for the last quarter of the movie.

Ways in which it was like LOTR: massed penguins look like massed armies, cool flyover mountain shots look like cool flyover mountain shots... But mainly, it's a Young Male On A Quest, complete with companions and dangers and trudging through snow and up mountains. Ah well.

While the humans=aliens theme worked very well, I didn't think the end was very clear. OK, Mumbles tap-dances in the aquarium, and everyone pays attention. So they (who? biologists?) let him out and follow him and somehow, because all the penguins are tap-dancing, they're suddenly worth saving. Buzh?

Anyway, very sweet.

When Elijah was talking about his character on Entertainers, it made me think about Frodo and LOTR too :).

I'm not much for animated movies, and my kid is interested in the trailers, but not in a "let's sit quietly in a theater for an hour and a half" way. (He's five.) Penguins = cute, though.

Oh it's got quite enough action to keep the little kids entranced. And it's not one adults will cringe at.

Thanks for the review! Going in December as part of an escort for the school's breakfast club -15 children.

And it's not one adults will cringe at. Thank goodness for that. I remember seeing the Care Bears once for my daughters birthday treat and coming out vowing never to repeat the experience.

Oh yuk! I hate Disney and Barney, but my teenboy agrees with me and my kidlet is tolerant of my preferences. Luckily, her dad will take her to see the Disney stuff.

Roll on December! I was really upset that as the 17th Nov passed me by, we still hadn't got the film in the UK! I tap dance, I love Elijah and I think Penguins are sooo cute. Can't wait to see this.

Oh you should have a great time, then! Realistic penguin feet are not the best for tapping with, but they do a fabulous job translating Savion Glover's style.
