mood: amused
music: They Might Be Giants: Istanbul Not Constantinople

Am ordering Alatriste from amazon, telesilla says that the film probably has a lot of the plot of the second book, Purity of Blood. Don't pre-order the paperback, click on the hardback used books link and scroll down just a bit to the Amazon remainder entry for the huge price of $2.99 :-)

On a link from ellen_kushner, I found a great high-energy Estonian folk-rock band Vägilased (Vagilased without the umlaut) that has me bouncing happily. I can't figure out how to buy a CD, but they have an hour-long concert video on the site, and hearing stage banter in Estonian is fun.

Thanks to kiltsandlollies a bunch of good solid music that I kinda missed in the 90s. Great Big Sea is exactly my cup of tea :-)

Teenboy is completely enamored of They Might Be Giants, amusing snark makes him happy, and I was the one who turned him on to it, so I get major parental-cred. :-D

When I put on LOST, the guys come and watch with me, and I have to whap t'husband when he starts humming the theme from Gilligan's Island. Horrible earworm. And teenboy asked me which character "Pippin" plays :-/ Gotta watch the new ep soon!

Actually, no, everyone who's seen the film over at Viggo-Works says that Book 2 is pretty much not included in the film. We were all surprised because it was such an intense plot, but they had 5 books to cover.

Ooops. My bad. That was pure speculation on my part simply because I knew the film almost had to be more than just Book One, because there's not a whole lot there. Which books does it encompass?

I believe it pretty much covers all the rest of them. There are 5 published so far, with the 6th on the way, but the script carried it all the way through the books according to the author's vision.

Book 3 will be out in English in November.

The dvd is coming out February 7, which is probably how I'm going to get to see the movie first. You'll probably be more fortunate!

Oh well, I can live with an extra book, if it's as good as it looks. My husband and teenboy will probably read it too, for the swordfights if nothing else.

(We were comparing our memories of War and Peace once, and it was so funny, I read the politics, the society stuff, and the romance and skimmed the strategy and battles: he did the opposite. It was like we read two different books!)

The books are excellent! He's a great author and I've thoroughly enjoyed them. All three of you will like them! Plus you'll learn a lot about seventeenth century Spain!
