we had a tiny earthquake!

mood: awake

About 1:30, things started shaking. You betcha I was unplugging the laptop and getting out out of the office pretty damn fast. It was only magnitude 1 here but about twenty miles away, it was a 5, getting kinda noticable. Love the US Geological Survey Community Intensity Map, which is created from reports like mine.

This one was little but the next one might be The Big One. The SF Earthquake and fire was 100 years ago in April.

*makes stern note to self to restock earthquake kit and attach more shelves to walls*

It's so easy to let things slide (as it were). *severe glance at self*

More in the what-could-have-been category than in the five seconds of very minor shake. But yeah.

It's amazing how much the Bay buffers things--well, that and the fact that I'm on the fifth floor of a 22-floor office building. *grin* I didn't feel a thing.

Mind, all our bookshelves at home are bolted anyway. Not that that will help, given the amount of books stacked on the *front* of the bookshelves, and I won't even *think* about the 14-foot high butler's pantry... eek.

Ah, earthquake country. You know, I'm pretty blase about earthquakes, having grown up in California--but thunder-and-lightning storms? Those send me scurrying under my blankets. Weird, I know.

Eep! It did? I didn't feel anything, but I was thinking about earthquakes this morning. Last night I dreamed I was on a train and there was a row of tornados (I'm from tornado country) from one end of the horizon to the other, heading straight for the train. Awake, I'm not scared of them. Weird.

But earthquakes have always freaked me out.

I wasn't sure how long it was going to go and how big it was going to get, so: adrenaline rush!
