Title: Dream Logic
Fandom: LOTR RPS
Pairing: Lawrence Makoare / Elijah Wood
Rating: PG
Feedback: yes please! also constructive criticism of any kind
Disclaimer: not true, I made it up
Archive: BTF, others please ask first
Notes: Came to me in a dream, as usual. Many thanks to tvillingar for helping me figure out how Elijah was feeling.

"I dreamed about you last night," Elijah is telling Lawrence, smiling. He's very small, and very very white.

"Oh?" Dreams are fascinating, and Lawrence is quite curious.

"I dreamed that there were three extra letters in the alphabet for Maori words, and you were teaching me about them." Elijah's face and voice are earnest.

Lawrence chuckles at the strange logic of dreams, of course there aren't. But it feels good to be a teacher, rather than a killer uruk-hai.

"I dreamed I kissed you." Elijah's tone remains the same, as the sounds of the party suddenly fade around Lawrence.

-

And more thanks to tvillingar who gave me a new Elijah icon, from lilith's personal photos of the Try 17 showing in Toronto (with permission, of course).

I don't understand. Of course there aren't three extra letters? The first part of the sentence has seemingly nothing to do with the second.

There are ninety-nine words. Is that supposed to have some sort of significance?

And, um. How is Elijah feeling?

You're right of course. I wasn't happy with that line, and should have waited until I figured out how to fix it.

BBEdit told me 100 words, I bet it counted uruk-hai as two. Sigh.

I'm not sure about Elijah, all I know is that he trusts Lawrence.

Ah. Okay.

Well, I don't know. I don't see why. I don't know why it's occurring, why it's so very important that it happen. It is a drabble, yes, but there should still be a reason why.

Ack, I'm not not at all sure what you mean. I'm interested and willing to learn, but not sure what you're asking for. Please explain more, as I'm a little flustered at knowing how to answer.

Ah, well. There should always be a reason why you're telling a story. Why it's important that the event is taking place and that you write about it. It's from Lawrence's pov, right? It might just be me, but he doesn't seem so very affected. The last line is the one that should pack the punch, but it doesn't really work for me. Am I making any sense? It's five-thirty in the morning and I can't sleep, heh.

You're trying to tell insteady of show, I think. 'Lawrence is quite curious.' About dreams, yes, but what is it about Elijah? I can't see the connection. Why is it important that Elijah's saying this and not someone else? Maybe you're trying too hard. Maybe I'm just picky.

I agree with gabbyhope about that particular sentence, but apart from that, I liked it. I liked that the idea of Lawrence as a teacher should bring out eagerness in Elijah, and the will to "learn". Feels very much like a first time, to me. Liked it.

I agree, and wish I'd kept working on that line until I got it right.

Glad you like the rest of it, I see Lawrence as a really nice guy, worthy of Elijah's trust, but am not sure where they're going.

Thank you! I am thinking about reworking it to a double-drabble, but I think the next part would be pretty angsty.

I had this idea for them talking about how people see them as freakish and sexual trophies, but it never went anywhere.
