I was having a pretty good day -- gorgeous weather here, all sunny and mild -- I cleaned up my kitchen -- I stopped feeling horribly sick all the time.

Then suddenly my dear and usually incredibly reliable iBook suddenly decided that squeezing the front right corner means "turn off and don't restart properly." And then it lost track of the date and reverted to 1969 and my Retrospect backup got really freaked out and told me all about how I was late backing up over and over and over and over again.

Sigh.

ETA midnight: Not rebooting at all, didn't get all my files copied dammit, at least my old iBook is a decent backup.

ETA2 1 am: All our troubleshooting skilz failed. I'm glad I paid for AppleCare insurance, but wah. I'm feeling very fragile right now.

Oh dear. Reminds me of when my leptop kept refusing to start again in the beginning. I had to be faced three times with a blue screen and a refusal to access windows. Was dreadful. I hope you can get yours fixed properly, darling. *hugs*

Oh, oh, oh! I'm going to back up everything today. You've just set off my computer paranoia at highest alarm, but I'm grateful, really, because I've been gradually growing more and more casual about how I treat my iBook. It does seduce you with its wiles until you can hardly be blamed for thinking it's indestructible and fail-safe (because it is ever so much more stable and well-behaved than one of those cursed Windows-possessed machines...)

*shakes self*

I'm sorry you had to live through the horror, though. I don't suppose it woke up today and said, "Just kidding! No worries. Every chap deserves a day off now and then, what?"

yis, please, backup everything, and check your backups by trying to restore! mine is starting intermittently, so I'm backing up in several places. Good thing I checked, because it had managed to miss my entire LOTR folder! YIKES!
