New icon - Billy at MTV awards, yum. Thanks to bleedskint!

A bunch of fabulous series, none finished but so good that the stories can stand by themselves:

cupidsbow has a slowly-unfolding Elijah-Orlando series, starting with Gaydar and continuing with Lines. The second part of Lines was particularly wonderful. Funny, touching, romantic, just a little angsty: it's one of the best series I've read lately.

viva_gloria has blown me over (pun sorta intended) with her Pirates "From Hell" series. The first two are Flames about Jack and Elizabeth on the island and Down Below about Jack and Will when prisoners in the Dauntless. Jack's voice is so perfect: funny, wry, sometimes sad. I nominate Gloria for the adult-version novelization of the movie -- it would sell like hotcakes!

blythely and sparcck have a new series starting with Me Neither which is proto-Dom/Elijah. Compulsively-readable angst, full of perfect little details and distinct voices and strange fragments of thoughts that go odd places (so perfect) and supportive!Sean, which I love. I'm glad there will be more, I just wanted to dive in and never come back out.

chaosmanor has an amazing AU series based on a angry_peony challenge to write an AU where Orlando doesn't recover from his spinal injury and is a paraplegic. It's VigOrli with some Sean Bean het elements, and it's full of both love and pain. Lots of satisfying sexy bits and emotion and romance. Even the hard parts are written without sentimentalizing or sensationalizing. Parts are difficult to read but still good, because the characters are all so imperfect and yet trying so much to do the right thing. They are "Perchance"; "Waking Soules"; "Angels and Mortals" and "Undiscover'd Country" .

In other news, I had a lightly productive work week, interrupted by too many appointments. Discovered RPG meta is fabulous but keeps a person up wayyyyy late. I'll be off to the in-laws' place for the weekend, so have fun while you think of me fixing fenceposts in the rain.

ETA: Eowyn in armor!!!

You know, that makes us sound much kinkier than we really are... and you didn't even mention our smutzine or smutcon. Or our lesbian orgies... oh wait, that's just some rps I haven't written yet. ;)

cupidsbow, I have carefully reviewed my memories of all the lesbian orgies I have been too, and you were sadly absent from them.

I know :(

I'm much kinkier in my head than I am in real life. Monogamous. For... thirteen years? Or is it fourteen? A very long time, anyway. But that's what slash is for! I'm so looking forward to writing my Lucy/Liv story. Any lesbian orgy stories you'd like to share will be greatly appropriated appreciated.

Me too. 19 years. But I have a very good imagination for many things. Sadly, not lesbian orgies. So I await your production with bated breath.

Alright, cupidsbow, I'll tell you about the lesbian orgies I've been to so you can write fic about them, but how about I don't do this in msilverstar's lj? Just in case msilverstar objects.

a femslash mystery

Why is *good* femslash so rare?

Don't ask me why, but I've had an on-and-off craving for Britney/Madonna. I think it's because they both use their notoriety *so* calculatedly, and yet they seem to have some genuine chemistry.

Anyway, I haven't found much yet (and I admit, the age thing is kinda squicky), but I quite liked "Not Solidarity," by Faithtastic.

I'm deeply annoyed that there isn't more good femslash. I wish I knew why. I think there's good stuff in HP fandom, but I only wander over there rarely. For some weird reason, my addiction is for LOTR RPS and what girl stories there are tend to be either schmoopy or just odd.

I'm very fond of Hiccups (Miranda/Liv) - it's not explicit but it's so goood.

Also Ngila/Liv in Yet Another Dress

ukcalico however, takes the prize with Dawn. September. Onomatopoeia. (Liv/Miranda) -- it's so incredibly hot and funny and sweet and touching.

Other than that, nothing really caught my fancy.

Thanks for these recs. I enjoyed them. Although I had a few minor quibbles with the details in Dawn. September. Onomatopoeia. I started to list them, but it sounded too much like a rant, and I didn't want to dis the author. It was just some of the descriptive language choices--they didn't ring true to me (although I'm an Aussie not a NZer, so what do I know about their landscape?). But the f/f aspect was very well handled.

You don't actually want our water. It's got cryptosporridium and giardia in it. WHO considers it unfit for human consumption. Not to mention the strict water rationing.
