Awww! Seanwise! Sadly, I probably would have crashed my car, despte his help, and been very embarrassed. What a sweet guy, though!

Awww! Tiny pig! That may well be one of the cutest things I've ever seen.

I suddenly feel very educated about figure-skating.

Great story. Once a Samwise, always a Samwise. And I loved the exchange about his mom.

Or maybe that's why he was Samwise. There was a bit in a fic that I just read, it completely nailed it for me:
“Well, I don’t know about Merry and Pippin,” Sean said in the tone of voice he used when a lecture was imminent. “But with Frodo and Sam it’s all to do with the Hollywood hero archetype. Peter and Fran want Frodo to be the hero of the story, or at least one of them, even though a lot of his behaviour couldn’t necessarily be called exactly heroic, per say. And in order to get around this they use a number of techniques such as casting him a lot younger than he supposedly is, and writing him a little differently. Giving him some real hero moments, you know?”

Dom nodded automatically, catching Billy’s twin-nod out the corner of his eye.

“Right,” Sean continued, “but then you’ve got Sam who has a lot more behaviour than Frodo that could be considered as heroic. Fighting Shelob and so on. There’s the danger that the audience might relocate their attention and begin considering Sam as the real hero of the piece and the most effective way for a filmmaker to stop this from happening is to make the character fat. Research has shown that an audience won’t visualize a character as heroic if the actor doesn’t conform to the physical standards set by Hollywood. Giving Frodo an overweight sidekick makes Frodo look better and ensures that the hero status doesn’t transfer from him to Sam.”

Dom just looked at him.

Sean looked from Dom to Billy and then back again and sighed. “Or, more realistically, it’s because you and I are such handsome men that Peter was afraid we’d outshine Orlando in the heartthrob stakes. Apparently, he felt Elijah and Billy were ugly enough not to pose a similar threat.”

it is totally and utterly darling, and I think it must be a piglet: big eyes in proportion to its head, short limbs, stuff like that.

How are you these days? I hope you have survived the snow reasonably well, and are warm and happy. You should post more!

That Astin story is lovely. There's something so endearing that he says "I'm a great helper." You can just hear the earnestness in his voice. And that little pig is adorable!
