meh reaction to Reclaiming the Blade

mood: cranky

Richard Taylor! Viggo! Bob Anderson! Swords! I so wanted to like this.

Shame that Reclaiming the Blade does the ponderous narration thing. It's mostly the script, which keeps making portentous statements and generalizations about how The Blade was So Amazing before those Awful Guns. They kept reaching for dramatic tension, instead of just relaxing and letting their passion show. The Netflix version didn't have any special features, but I doubt they'd be worth actually paying much for.

Also, the term "European Martial Arts" does not need to be used every five minutes: we get it, OK?

(Yes, I'm in a rotten mood today, but the documentary really was disappointing.)

Goodness me, and is that Karl U. on the cover? 'tis like a reunion of the class of 2000. How could they mess this up? It looks so promising! otoh, maybe one should distrust a 'historical' programme made exclusively by movie geeks... Possibly it's a job for the Real Historians. (I would say that as I'm married to one, *g*.)

Karl has about four bits, adding up to about a minute, not early enough.

I think it's a bad comibination of movie geeks and amateur historians.

Aw, drat--I *really* wanted to love it, and now I'm thinking my reaction will be the same as yours. Phooey. :p

Oh well... at least if I rent it, there's always the fast-forward button.

*hugs* How are you, sweetie?

Someone else should do a reality check, but I'm pretty sure it really was that bad.

I'm meh, easily depressed, no energy. You?
