FPS? Me? Well, OK, take what inspiration comes. Of course it's gen, because my personal book!LOTR is a twelve-year-old asexual one.

This is for billthepony who's Making of Samwise series is heartbreakingly good. Even if we disagree very slightly on the class issue.

Left Hand

The way he figures it, the left hand is just as important as the right one.

The right hand is used for all the exciting jobs, for writing, and reaching, and even wielding a sword. The left hand only helps. No one kisses the left hand, or pledges fealty with it.

You do need the left one for some things, even if it's second best. You need it to tie a bow, play the flute, dig deep, or build anything that will last. A gardener knows that.

But he wonders if the left hand sometimes wishes it was the right.

I'm so pleased you liked it. I've always had a soft spot for the left side.

Oh. Lovely.

I've often wondered if Sam ever wished to be other than he was.

I've wondered if he knew how indispensible the part he played was. And wondered if fully knowing his importance would have made it impossible to play the part at all.

*sigh*

Nice work.

I guess my Sam isn't quite as content with his "place" as Tolkien would have wished. And he wasn't blind, he must have known that Frodo wouldn't have got far without him. They're doing a fine job in the movies with that part.

Oh, oh, Oooooh.

I loved that. Simple metaphore, so nicely done. Much much much with the nice. And If I wasn't too tired to come up with anything more coherent than that, I'd tell you very eloquently how/why I love it. But yeah, loved it. Very nice bittersweet and slightly naive in imagery. Very much like Sam, or at least like the Same I imagine.

Well done.

Thank you, sweetheart. That's exactly what I was going for. Unsophisticated and bittersweet. I spent a while looking for Shire things that require two hands, it's trickier than it sounds.
