Holy 70's prom dress, Merlin!

mood: disconcerted

OK, watched the first ep of Merlin with the kidlet. She runs out of the room when there's any dramatic tension, I close my eyes when there's embarrassment humor, but we kinda liked it.

Making Arthur a bully was a nifty twist, Guinevere is darling, Merlin is cute, in a ridiculously young way, and I could kinda get into the whole thing.

EXCEPT THE DAMN COSTUMES. Merlin's skinny jeans-and-jacket look, shiny polyester capes, the villaness's wasp-waist dress... The last straw was Morgans's feast dress, which just made me scream at it's disco wrongness:

Noooooo! Please, not the 70s, NOT AGAIN.

yes, the 70's. you are required under LAW to relive the 70's in RIDICULOUSLY INAPPROPRIATE COSTUMES.

where's Mr. T. when you need him? *kicks some costuming ass*

No, please, even hippie-moi wore things in the 70s that I shudder to recall. I don't want to look at them!

Welcome to the club. Yes you will get into it ;-)

I do agree on the outfits. And Camelot is a bit of a Disney monstrosity. And, and, and. But it's fantastic good fun and I love the boys.

I dunno, they are just such babies. It's been an issue with bandom as well. I feel more like their mothers than anything else...

Oh, if the costumes were the main problem then you're doing just fine! :P

Stick with it, you will forgive it all its stupidities (and there are many). But there's also Much Devoted Love.

My kidlet is enjoying it, so I'll try to squint and ignore the costumes.

eventually the bit of your brain that resists the costumes and whatnot gets beaten into submission by the other bit that is going: ♥ ♥ ♥.

I'm not a medievalist (and I was a young child in the seventies) so I have no issues with the costumes (other than, "they're wrong!"); actually I rather like them for prettiness. But I am STILL not over the castle. near-Renaissance much?

Yeah, it's all kinda fairy-tale Middle Ages, badly restored. Ah well.

Yes, but think about it; because they don't try to be historically accurate, they can let Gwen be played by Angel, and I really wouldn't have wanted to miss out on her! Plus the ladies get an actual part to play in this series at all.

The thing that made snort in particular (everyone gets a moment of 'yeah right...' I guess) was the sign 'court physician' with an arrow pointing up the stairs on one of the castle walls.

For the rest of the time I let myself be dazzled by just about everything Colin Bradley does *is smitten*

I do like Gwen, but they're all just so young, I want to make sure they're eating their vegetables and washing behind their ears :-)
