Burning Questions

mood: silly

  1. Stove recommendations: our kenmore only lasted about ten years, which seems ridiculously short. We just want one that works: who likes their stove?

  2. Our cat got out and got fleas again. We used Advantage Front Line last week, but he's got 'em again. What else can we do?

  3. Is it just me, or is there really no "edit" link on your own bookmarks in the delicious search results? It's driving me bonkers.

  4. I can't remember #4

Rather than brands, I have recommendations for stove types (both electric).

First, you could try an induction stove top - it doesn't get hot (safer for pets), it induces a magnetic current in the pan that heats the food/water. It's more energy efficient than a normal stove because heat is only generated in the pan, not transferred. The only disadvantage is that you can't use copper-bottom pans, they need to be iron/steel.

A second choice would be a ceramic top - it does get hot, but the surface is very easy to clean once it's cool again.

Gosh, yeah, I hadn't even thought about that, grew up with gas. I'll have to see what the prices are like. Thank you!

Re: #3: No there isn't currently, but they are working on adding it. Check the comments for some workarounds.

GRUMP. It's a kenmore. I'm not a happy camper.

Maybe we can find a good deal on a used high-end one that's likely to last 40 years. I hate buying appliances.

Poor kitty, I've found Frontline to be absolutely useless for fleas as they just return and hop right on. If he doesn't mind baths I suggest trying the Fido's range of shampoos, worked well on my kitty (mind you her brother was the water obsessed one)

He's an easily-spooked cat, I don't look forward to bathing him :-(

advantage works better for fleas on cats. and if the fleas has time to lay eggs in your home, you will need to treat the home and stay vigilant with applications of frontline to the kittems.

I third Advantage over Frontline. I've heard from many cat owners that Frontline didn't work for them. This may be because Frontline, according to my vet, especially when sold at places like PetMart, may be fraudulent, like a fake designer bag.

Stove! I recommend Galvin Appliance in Albany. I bought a high-end floor model dishwasher from them for 60% of the original price and was extremely happy with it. The dishwasher had a small scratch on the side. They are really knowledgeable folks. Even if you don't buy from them, you will learn a heck of a lot by stopping by.

I got my microwave from them not too long ago, and it was making burn-y smells lately. Maybe I'll try their customer service first.

1. I just replaced a 30 year old Kenmore with another Kenmore. This time glass top. Works much better than I expected and very easy to clean.
