Please vote in the LJ elections
The election is for what I suspect is a largely symbolic seat on the LJ Advisory Board, but symbols matter.

[info]fandom_votes has lots of info on why voting for a fandom-oriented candidate is a good idea, and where the various candidates are in fandom. [info]metafandom has many links to posts on the topic.

I'm voting first for [info]rm, who I've seen while wandering friendsfriends and is generally both rational and insightful. My second choice is [info]vichan who founded [info]fandom_counts, and my third is [info]legomymalfoy who has a lot of fandom endorsers and a good platform.

OTOH, I very much dislike [info]jameth who is a poster of horrible blinking animations (which completely disqualifies him in my book) and tends to slag off fandom (ditto).

VOTE before May 29! Vote for three different people: second and third choices count during runoffs. Vote!

Jameth is a known troll; among other things, it amuses him to violate privacy locks and repost people's stuff after they friend him in ignorance. He's banned off more comms than most people are in; often he's pre-emptively banned when people who know create a community.

People are voting for him as a joke, as a symbol of their lack of faith that the board is anything but a figurehead, and because they think his posters are cool and don't know what he's like.

My thoughts are that we can't risk electing someone like that, who will only make SUP think their previous policies and 6A's are the only way to deal with idiots like their userbase, etc.

It's worth noting that it might be worthwhile to vote for legomymalfoy even if you prefer rm, as she seems to have by far the best chance of winning, or at least she did when I looked a few hours ago.

I hate the idea of someone like that winning. Even symbolically, it sucks.

I may change my vote, because the instant runoff thing can be tricky, and I'd be happy if she won.

of note is the fact that the idea behind [info]fandom_vote is to educate ourselves as to fandom candidates but also to see if a clear favorite emerges that fandom could then massively choose to vote for. I've voted and changed my vote once already (votes are editable until the deadline, which is thursday I think), and I might change it again if big numbers of fen manage to agree to a push that could give 'our' candidate a chance...

[info]fandom_votes, I think? If there is a fandom consensus, I will probably change mine.

Instant Runoffs can behave counter-intuitively. I may post about that. Anyway, the good thing is that jameth is blowing his wad, so to speak, and telling everyone to vote for him 1/2/3: this means that he's less likely to add support as the lowest-vote candidates are eliminated.

VOTE before June 29!

Isn't that May 29? o_O

Of all the fannish candidates legomymalfoy has the best chances of winning right now (she is at 26,9 %, jameth follows with 17,8%), so if she isn't the first choice, it's a good idea to give her the second or third vote. :)

Thank you for catching that! Danke schön.

I may change towards the end, but I'm voting straightforwardly now. Tactics later.

I'd have said more on my own post but I have at least one [info]jameth 'fan' on my f-list and I don't want a fight. I voted for [info]legomymalfoy first because she has the best chance of carrying it. It's unfortunate that one sometimes has to vote strategically but even though I agree with you about the probably symbolic nature of the Board I also believe that actions count in ways that we can't always determine beforehand. So yes, it does matter that someone like [info]jameth not be the punters' choice.

It does matter, and I'm hoping for the best. If someone on my flist wants to defend jameth, I'll listen but I tried to word it to tie my dislike to action, not personality.

Voted! I read all the platforms and agreed with you, though I changed the order of the three in hopes of avoiding runoff issues.

Cheers for the heads-up! I've got so little time online these days that I miss a ton of stuff, but this is definitely something I wanted to catch. Thanks. :)

Yay for you for reading everything, that's what I was hoping people would, instead of taking my word for it.

Okay, I went and voted. I'm just following your advice on this. You seem to be on top of this and I am totally in the dark.

Now I feel like a cult leader :-/

But still confident I didn't give you BAD advice.
