mood: annoyed

I just got an AIM message with a scary content from flakz18:
your private friends-only posts have been stolen: http:// msilvrstar.on.nimp.org/?u=r4l
But a quick web search shows clearly it's a malware site that hijacks JavaScript to do bad things to your browser. If you get something like this, block the sender and close the window!

I just got this from Dobernala56 on aim. Wish I'd seen your post before I clicked on the stupid link. I think Mozilla blocked it for the most part. IT wouldn't really do anything, though I did have to restart my computer. I hope that's all it did.

I'm lucky, on a Mac, and also am paranoid enough to look it up before I click. Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things.

Hi! Thanx for this post! I found your post in google either. I got the same message on AIM (from strident675clips) — but I have no friends-only posts :D. I'm on mac too but we have to share this information with windows users.. I'll crosspost it in my blog.

phishing, such a nasty thing to do. At least we're doing our best to warn each other.

And, that's what takes me high.

What should one do after they have clicked on that darn website? Does it hack into your AIM account or does it just mess up your browser that one time, and then everything functions normally afterwards?

I don't know, sorry about that. If you're on Windows, update your spam-catchers and malware protectors and turn your computer off or at least hibernate it when you're not using it. Maybe ask your college IT support department if they could scan it. Good luck.

ETA: fixed spelling
