LOTRIPS fic listing thought (now with LJ poll)

mood: enthused

I read and skim a whole lot of LOTR RPS. Now that all our fandom newsletters are gone, I've been thinking of doing a simple listing of the new fic that I come across. I'm not going to stop doing my recs, but I'm thinking I could set up a simple listing of everything I see on every journal system I'm on. That would help people find the fabulous new writers and great new fics from old writers. So, a poll
Poll #1049279 Lotrips fic roundup

Would you like a list of new Lotrips fic?

Yes, I want to see what's out there
6(25.0%)

Ticky box, duh!

If yes, what format works for you?

A weekly listing post

Ticky box! (it was almost a radio button set)

ETA: added LJ poll.

Oh, yes! I've been thinking about it myself and even at one point I started collecting stories just to see if I could stick with doing it for more than a few days. (I couldn't, lol.)

Lotrips is not huge anymore that it would be an impossible task to collect everything, but there's still a lot of stories being posted to either people's personal journal's only or only to specific, smaller communities.

I checked delicious, feed from delicious, and a weekly posting, but I think a weekly posting would be best. Are you thinking about setting up a separate journal for this, or posting in your own?

Well, I am the mod of lotrips and haven't used it for anything so would probably do it there. Looks like a weekly post would be best. yeah.

And I'm sure I could use help!

And I would be glad to help :).

lotrips sounds like a good place to do it. I assume you would link to all kinds of fics, not just slash?

LOL.

I accepted, thank you. Do you have an idea of how you want the collecting/posting to work?

I want it to be as simple as possible.

title (link to url, x/y chapters for series), author (no link), pairing [in brackets

like this:
Retribution by velvet_fire_fic [Viggo/David Cronenberg]

in alphabetical or random order...

I'm posting them to http://del.icio.us/msilverstar/listing, though could do something else if it makes it easier to avoid duplication

The format looks good. (You have a script to pull the data from del.icio.us, don't you?)

I would suggest that while posting we separate the listings for new fics from updates to WIPs.

If you use your personal account, I won't be able to add to it directly--would you want me to email you the links I find? How about having a separate account we could both access?

I'm thinking about tagging--it would be nice to have the listings tagged by pairing, but it would add more work.

Also, is there a way on del.icio.us to add a tag to a batch of fics? For example, to add the tag "posted" or something similar so that it's easy to find the one that have not been posted yet.

And now I'm off to have a Labor Day barbeque *g*.

Hope you had good BBQ!

It's easiest to just type in title, part number (and maybe WIP), author and pairing, but I'm up for a little more, if you want. I'm kinda biased towards alphabetic sorting by title.

I think we should find a bookmark system which we can both use, that puts out nice clean RSS so all we have to do is copy and paste.

Here's a list of them -- I use Furl for work and it's pretty nice, but limited to 20 items at a time. It has an extra feature of saving a copy of the file, oh and it also says if you've done that URL before. Anyway, if you want to find one that works and has a Firefox bookmarklet, I'm happy to let you choose.

Sorry it took me so long to reply--I must have missed the notification for you comment.

Alphabetic sorting by title sounds good.

I don't use any of the online bookmarking systems (I use my own application which I run from my home server) so I'm not up to date on what's out there. I will check out Furl, but Del.icio.us would be fine with me.
