JournalFen gets Cease and Desist Letter for Narnia porn fic

mood: worried

'It appears that the Estate of C.S. Lewis has taken offense to a little piece of work entitled "Mmm... Narnia" posted in the dailyporn journal March 25th.'

For the official announcement: JournalFen system notice

I did find a copy of the story. If you look hard enough, it's still in at least one search engine cache. It's a fairly weird story, here's the summary:

"This is Lucy/Tumnus, so obviously there's a possibility of bestiality/furry squick, seeing as how he's a satyr. Lucy is supposed to be an adult when this takes place. This is part of a Buffy/Narnia WIP in which Lucy is the Narnian Slayer and Mr. Tumnus is her Watcher. Ignores all Narnia canon except the first 19 pages of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

(yes, I have robot-blocking enabled)

It's absurd to send a C+D for something like that (though it's #26 on a google search for Lucy and Tumnus). I hope this practice doesn't spread. I'm tempted to actually write the JRRT/CSL crack!fic that's been percolating in my brain, just because I can.

I find the whole C&D practice very odd, and certainly hope that it doesn't spread. Am I right in thinking that George Lucas either tried it or threatened to try it? Can't remember. It all seems strange anyway, plus I find it hard to believe such a thing would work.

I don't know enough about fandom to say if Lucas tried it. Apparently there have been some issues with Rowling. I knew other people would be interested though.

I know I shouldn't find the above amusing but I can't help it. I played the role of Lucy in a Primary play of The Lion, the Wtich & the Wardrobe. One thing I do have to say that the guy that played Tumnus wasn't bad at all.

Sorry about the post. I hope that this doesn't spread!!

Oh dude. *nod* write that JRRT/CSL fic. Muahaha.
No seriously: boy's club, religion, literary aspirations, elitism, and then the disintegration of the friendship. Woah. Angst.

I was thinking more of tweed coats, manly company and lots of beer in their favorite pub. But religion and elitism (or as cara chapel would say, class consciousness) could fit in there nicely. I'm not ready for Big Angst in this story, but you go right ahead and write one too!

Maybe the Estate's lawyers are squicked by furry porn?

I don't think it'll catch on. Most of the larger fandoms are pretty much unstoppable now (which, if I were an upstanding member of the legal profession, I would actually find rather unsettling).

However! Not all search engines respect the 'No Robots' blocking option. I have found my own LJ on Google ...

... and actually, mine has now disappeared from the search I usually check with, but try http://www.google.com/search?q=Viggo+Orlando+relationship ... your LJ's on page 2 ...

I'm very slightly more interested in preserving the intellectual rights of living authors. The estates of dead authors are mainly interested in property, not character development. I've been to one of Syvia's Cybersalons, and there were excellent points on both sides of the intellectual property issues, I could not see any way to reconcile them.

Damn Google, I checked that a while ago . The cache is dated June 6, as if they'd stopped getting new versions but didn't remove it from the index. (And the funniest thing is, I cannot for the life of me write Viggo/Orlando. I can read it with pleasure, but all my stories about them are gen!)
