LOTR fandom things!

mood: fannish

karin_woywod found this photo of the LOTR cast life masks, I think it's amazing.

Upper Row: Liv, Orlando, Cate Blanchett, Sean Bean, Viggo, Ian McKellen
Middle Row: Ian Holm, Elijah, Sean Astin, Billy, Dom, Andy Serkis
Lower Row: Bernard Hill, maybe Christopher Lee ?, Brad Dourif or Bruce Hopkins?, Hugo?, John Rhys-Davies, Kiran Shah

Handwritten notes to Fon 2Also: handwritten notes from the cast to Fon from her book, quite charming. Found by helens78.

I'm reading The Children of Húrin, having visited the Other Change of Hobbit bookstore and been fed a slice of their 30th anniversary cake. I've I spent a fair amount of money there in every one of those years (the owners are old friends). My personal Silmarillion canon has been much enhanced by tyellas's Magweth Pengolodh series, a fascinating and affecting story told by an Eldar who lived through much of the First and Second ages, stopping in Numenor on his way to the West.

There was something else, I know there was. But it seems to be gone now :-(

The death life masks are quite terrifying, in a way! Amazing.

I'd like to link this at DomWeek, if I may. I have not had anything Dom wrote by hand except autographs, a short note to a message board and the Aussie con letter. PLEEEEEASE?

Sure, it's in my LJ Scrapbook and you can link directly or clip out just the Dom bit and upload that part of the picture.

I'm linking to the gallery. Thank you!

Did you catch what Miranda wrote below her signature?
"(You smell sweeter than Dom)"

Miranda for the win, I think.

Lower Row: Bernard Hill, maybe Christopher Lee ?, Brad Dourif or Bruce Hopkins?, Hugo?, John Rhys-Davies, Kiran Shah

anatsuno and I were trying to puzzle out who everyone was, and came to similar conclusions for the bottom row. That's definitely Christopher Lee if you compare it to a picture of him-as-himself rather than him in his Saruman makeup (which made his nose look longer and more pointy). It's definitely Brad Dourif imo, but I wonder if the next one might be Tall Paul rather than Hugo Weaving. (If only because Paul would have definitely needed a mask for prosthetics whereas Hugo Weaving didn't need them for his role, iirc.) Then JRD then Kiran! :-)

Hmmm. Viggo and Cate didn't need prosthetics either, so I think it's more complex than that.

Cate needed pointed ears! Though you got me on Viggo, I guess he didn't have any prosthetics, and I can't even remember him having a helmet that would have needed to be sized to his face.

They aged Viggo for the "Future Memories" that Arwen had, I can't remember if they used any prosetics but they may have thought at some point they might use them for that.

Oh, good point! Though now I realize that Hugo would have needed prosthetic elf ears too, so maybe it is him, and he just has a longer face than I realized!

I find it interesting to see the expressions on each actor's face in those life masks. I've heard many actors allude to the rather scary experience of having one made. It's a nice little glimpse into their states of mind whilst the mold was on each face. Sean Bean looks particularly disturbed, I think, while Elijah looks completely relaxed and Liv seems to be smiling.

The notes to Fon are lovely. Billy spoke very fondly of her during one conversation with him, and I have to agree that Miranda's comment wins!

Thanks for the link to the Silmarillion story. I'm very picky about those, but on your recommendation, I shall add it to my list of things to read. :)

Viggo looks very Zen as well. I seem to remember that Liv talked about it on the commentary. *is happy fan*

(I'm terribly picky on Silmarillion stories, and I actually don't much care for any of the rest of hers, but that one is a gem.)

How absolutely beautiful - but then from these amazing people, how could the words be anything but loving. So Fon wrote a book?
And I love that life mask wall - I'm sure they were all told to relax, and you can see who wasn't able to. Thanks to both the ladies for these finds - and to you, dear, for the links.

*big hug* As you said, I think many of us are in for the long haul.

I turned my mom on to LOTR [she was already a fan of Viggo's] and now she's become a huge fan of many other similar genre films [X-Men, POTC, etc] because of all our LOTR guys and gals.
