LOTRIPS Recs, PG-13ish

mood: satisfied

Recs from March to now, some fabulous stories, give them all a chance!

A note about ratings: I use the author's rating unless it seems excessive, but I don't think mentioning gay sex automatically equals depravity, it's just sex.

Set during filming

The Thing I Understand by telesilla; set during filming; Sean Bean/Viggo and various cast; PG-13. Set during filming, one day in the life of Sean Bean. Not just slash, it shows the band-of-brothers (expanded to include the makeup artist & Philippa), and how they take care of their own. The various touches are so different and yet very satisfying

Of Bath Bombs and Hobbits [challenge fic], by telesilla; set during filming; Orlando & Hobbits; PG-13 (gen). Orlando's POV, his back hurts and he's not entirely sure he wants the Hobbits to take over. Mild drug use.

An Education in Scottish Culture, by strongplacebo, Orlando/Billy, PG-13. Hobbits and Orli in New Zealand, full of perfect dialog, extremely bad German, smartass comments, guys being guys, taking the piss, and antics. Also explains Billy's weird purple stripe shirt. (link to part 2 is at the bottom)

Incoming by strongplacebo, set during filming, PG-13, Elijah/Dom with a hint of Billy/Orlando. This is fabulous and delightful. Elijah's voice and the descriptions are spot on. The teasing and the drinking and the head-butting and all, wonderful.

Caring Dom [challenge ficlet] by almostnever; set during filming; Elijah/Dom, PG-13. Cuddles, caring and a nice zing of UST that might turn into something more.

Appropriate Behaviour by kissing_athelas, set during filming, PG-13, Dom/Elijah. This is so funny, it's almost crackfic ;-) Nice twist on the "I've Never' game fic genre

Translation [challenge fic], by telesilla, set during filming, Dom/Orlando, PG-13. Dom understands what Orlando's not saying, and he's sympathetic, but that doesn't mean he likes the situation.

Saving the World, One Shag at a Time, [challenge ficlet], by almostnever, set during filming, PG-13 Sean Bean/Dom. Inspired by the anecdote of Dom pranking Bean by putting a fish in the boot of his car, this story sparkles with exasperated Sean and smart-ass Dom.

Hobbledehoy, by apple_pi, set during filming, PG-13, Dom/Billy. I did not know where this was going, and I loved the uncertainty as well as the sweet satisfaction in the end. Dom is such a darling and flustered and flailing, and that Billy loves him anyway, enormously gratifying.

Inpenetrable by feelforfaith, set during filming, PG-13, Dom/Billy. Fun drabble, I love it when people play with cliché.

Moments Accrue by fitofpique; set during filming, PG-13; Dom/Billy. Dom's point of view, fabulous dialog, hobbit actors doing their thing, and then enlightenment. Seems as though it should be dull, but this is done beautifully, and with such a simple and sympathetic progression, it snuck into my emotions. (challenge fic)

Other settings: post-filming, future and unknown

The Birds by strongplacebo, setting unknown, Elijah/Dom, PG-13. Out at a dance club with Billy and Dom, (but not like that), Elijah really really wants to pull, but none of his chat-up lines seems to be effective. Snarky and satisfying.

Recollection, by glass_moment; set in the future; Dom/Billy, PG-13. Intimate Dom's-eye-view of several moments in his relationship with Billy, set in the future. They don't talk all that much but they certainly do communicate.

[Captured Orlijah (in bed) - challenge ficlet] by talesinbloom, setting unknown, PG-13, Orlando/Elijah. Dom and Billy decide that a picture of Elijah and Orlando in bed would be worth a lot.

"Smoke Patterns [challenge ficlet] by almostnever, set in 2002, PG-13, Dom/Billy (sort of). Perfect dialog and details, Dom doing his best and sinking a bit, with an angsty twist.

AUs and crack!Fic

Breadsticks by airgiodslv, AU, Dom/Elijah/Orlando, PG-13. Charming AU in which Orlando is a waiter, much admired by Dom and Elijah, to the annoyance of Billy. Sparkly snarky dalog makes this quite satisfying, though it ends before any smut actually happens.

Rent by princess_cushla, Dom/Elijah, PG-13. I thought this was a version of the musical "Rent", but it's a Science Fiction AU, in which dreams can be rented. I like the twists in this, especially when Dom says he likes geeks. Short and sweet.

Anomaly by princess_cushla, very very AU, various cast members and Elijah/undead!Dom; PG-13. Silly ghostbusters AU with the cast of the LOTR movies. Nice when you want something light and fun.

Adventures of the 'Randy Stag', by brigantine; AU crack!fic; some Viggo/Sean Bean; PG-13. Viggo's fever dreams involve cracktastic pirates in tight trousers and a huge amount of silliness.

Don't forget, if a story touches you, please drop a comment for the author. Feedback feels lovely.
