ants and stuff

« previous entry | next entry »

mood: busy

We have ants invading our kitchen, day after day. It's getting old. They're coming from behind the dishwasher insert, no way to plug that opening, so we have to use ant stakes. I don't like it but there's no choice. Kidlet knows not to touch them. It does give us incentive to clean the kitchen every night.

And now for something completely different.

lotrips_remix went really smoothly, now all we have to do is update the web site. It was nice to see some of the newer writers get appreciation, and some of the more experienced writers trying new pairings and new approaches.

I know I had more to say. Ah well. spam you tomorrow.

I had fun writing the remix (like I always do), and wish that I wasn't quite so busy so I could actually sit down and read the stories. You did an awesome job, Avi!

Thank you sweetie! I really enjoy it, and since everyone was pretty close to on time this time, it was easy.

Ants invasion is a big problem. One of my coworkers at my new work place apparently talks to ants and can make them turn away. I didn't believe it either but then I saw it. There was this string of ants trailing in and she went over and talked to them in font of us and they stopped and turned around! They haven't been seen since and no yucky products have been used. Wish I could send her over to you.

My guess is this person somehow emanates a chemical compound that ants hate? I mean, the talking things seems so... impossible?

wow.

Yeah, that's my guess too, lol. Still, it works you know? And it's quite the impressive little trick, let me tell you.

We have silver fish. I tread on them in the dark, it really isn't nice.

I have heard - though have not had ants to test it on - that sprinkling baby powder across the trails where they come into the house will make them go away. It makes sense, since the trails are all scent-based and the baby powder would totally screw up the scenting of them. Might be worth a try, and if it doesn't work, at least the back of your dishwasher will smell baby-powder fresh. :)

We can't get there! It's an enclosed box cupboard type thing, and we simply have no access :-(

We've been using dish-soap soaked paper towels, but they have limited success.

My friend has just had the same problems. Washing the floor with vinegar will stop them. It destroys all the scent trails. You may have to keep it up for a bit because they're likely to come back within a day or to.

Thank you for all your hard work on the remixes. I still have not finished reading. Which is great because I know I've got some great reads to look forward to.

Oh I hadn't heard of vinegar, we used dish soap but will try vinegar.

You're welcome! I love Remix and am very happy to have made it happen.

If you can figure out where they're coming into the house from outside, a line of borax on the ground is supposed to help as well -- they won't cross it. I'm kind of impressed we don't have ants yet this summer. *knocks on hed wood*

We didn't have many last year, so I suppose we were lucky.
