sometimes memes are enlightening

music: afropop t'husband recorded off the radio

What I learned from this meme: I hate choosing a single favorite anything. Place, food, music, anything! I kinda knew it before, but I really feel it now. Useful thing to realize.

that question meme
1) What is the best place you have ever lived or visited and why?
I love living in Berkeley and have for most of the last 30 years. Places I truly loved visiting? Hmmm. Mt. Lassen, California; Vancouver, BC; Stirling, Scotland; Tubingen, Germany; Berne, Switzerland; Chartres and Amiens, France; Florence and Venice, Italy; Spetsos, Greece; Haifa, Israel.

2) Tell me the story of how you arrived at LJ in LOTR Slash Fandom. Begin at the beginning and leave nothing out! Hee.
I've told it before, cos it was so weird. On Feb. 4, 2003, a friend on a mailing list (who is now on LJ rosiespark) posted a link to viva_gloria's "Imagin'd Glories web site (RPS flavor). And I was hooked. Obsessed. Addicted. Reading everything I could find and amazed at the quality of the writing. And the sex. I never liked much erotica before, and found myself enthralled.

I sent fan mail to gloria and lobelia321 and gabbyhope and a few others, who were very gracious. I didn't get my LJ for a little while, because I was too shy to ask for a code and it took me a little while to figure out paid accounts. But everybody was so very nice to me, I felt welcomed. Appreciated. Loved. Still do. This is a very special place for me, a group that makes me feel good in ways I haven't in years.

3) Who influenced you most as a child?
My parents (duh) and Martin Luther King Jr. and Laura Ingalls Wilder and my 5th/6th grade teacher Ms. Olga Blanck and JRR Tolkien.

4) What is your favorite sweet, and do you make it yourself or buy it? If you make it yourself, share the recipe!
I'm so bad at favorites. You may have noticed this theme. Really good dark chocolate (Sharffenberger or Lindt or Sees), creme caramel, cherries, an amazing apple tarte with puff pastry and thyme honey ice cream at a local French restaurant.

5) If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, what would you use for mood music? (HAH! You expected a different question, didn't you?)
Hah! Got me! I'd probably do an eclectic mix from Hildegarde von Bingen through Bach and Vivaldi and Turloch o'Carolan to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell and the Beatles and Dire Straits and Afropop and Capercaellie and lots of world music.

so! who wants me to ask them questions?

She is still around (we're still writing), and may return, perhaps with a different name. I hope I can convince her to archive her fic as well.

2) How did you learn such fabulous idiosyncratic English?
3) Will you ever go back to writing Lotrips? If I beg?
4) If you could ask a fictional character any question, who would it be and what would you ask?
5) Do you know a lot of Finnish history and mythology? If so, what did Tolkien steal from the Kalevala?
